Our Sales Policy
Our Holland Lops are well loved, and each baby is so special and dear to us. We feel it is really important that they get the best possible start in life. Our babies are weaned between 8-9 weeks of age and will not leave for their new homes earlier than that. Occasionally, we will have adults that are available. Our babies are heavily socialized from birth, handled multiple times daily, and have free range areas to play in during the day. Their care and happiness is of utmost importance.
Pricing ranges from $150 - $250, depending on color, type & vienna markings. We put a lot of time, energy and expense into our bunnies, their setup, and care and the adoption fee reflects that. We do things very differently than most breeders.
All of our bunnies will only be ready for adoption in good health, but we cannot guarantee the health of our bunnies once they leave our home. We also cannot guarantee the long term temperament of a bunny as that can change for each individual as he/she matures. Please understand that an animal in a completely new environment can be stressed and overwhelmed so please give him/her time to adjust before making too many changes in living environment, food, etc. Patience is really important. Although we don't expect any issues with any of our babies, we are here to support and guide you with any possible issues that may arise. :-)
We put a lot of love and care into our Holland Lop bunnies, and only want the best possible
homes for them.
We will NOT sell our bunnies as meat rabbits. We will also not sell bunnies as "surprise" holiday/birthday gifts as we really feel that it is so important for the new owner (even if it is a child) to be involved from the beginning in the adoption process so please do not contact us if that is your intention. We don't think that pets should ever be given as gifts.
Bunnies will go to their new home with care instructions, printed custom pedigree, and first right of refusal agreement (we will each get a signed copy). Prior to pickup, we will email detailed information and photos/links to the type of food they are eating, the hay, water bottle we use, litter box w/grate, and type of litter so that you can prepare ahead for his/her arrival. Babies are used to having access to BOTH a water bottle and a water bowl. They will also leave with some of their hay and a big bag of their current food (unless you will be using the same kind that we do) for an easy transition. Please note that babies should not receive ANY treats (fruits, veggies, snacks) until they are at least 4-5 months of age. It can cause digestive upset and loose stools if given too early. When they are of age, introduce very slowly - especially fruits which should be limited anyway. All of this information and much more will be included in your care instructions.
If you change your mind after you are on the reservations list, the deposit is non-refundable as we have turned away other interested families that were also waiting. We reserve the right to cancel a sale at any time, or retain a bunny for any reason, and if this happens you will have your deposit returned to you. Please understand that Blue Moon Lops does not approve every home.
At the time of pick up of a bunny, along with paperwork, we will ask every family to sign a first right of refusal that states that if you can no longer care for it and need to find it a new home for any reason, you will need to offer it back to Blue Moon Lops first. Please understand that sometimes we may not be able to take the bunny back in due to not having enough space or for other reasons but we need to know where our bunnies are going. :)
We pride ourselves in being available to provide support and guidance to all of our adoptive families after our bunnies leave for their new homes. We love to answer questions and stay in touch with our families! It's so nice to see photos of the babies as they grow up! :-)
Blue Moon Lops!
We're so glad you're here!
We are by appointment only. We do not allow visitors unless you are interested in adopting a specific bunny.
*Please read this policy in it's entirety before filling
out an adoption application. With the submitted
application you agree to our terms of sale.
Our 8lb Shih-Tzu Annie helps a lot with socializing the babies. She loves her job so much!
All families considering adoption will be required to visit the bunny (a home visit) to insure it is a good fit for both you AND the bunny, and also so that you can go home and talk it over as a family and make sure everyone is on board with adopting (see note below). It is a commitment! :) We will also be evaluating you at the same time as we only want the best possible fit for each bunny. Personalities differ in bunnies as they do with all animals and humans. Some babies can be more active, some are really laid-back, and most lie somewhere in between. Based on what we learn about your family, we can assist you in choosing the best possible fit all the way around. If you have any specific needs, we are happy to work with your goals. NOTE: There will be exceptions and a different process for special homes we approve that live too far to visit in person. We will work with specific transports for approved families.
*UPDATE: During the coronavirus epidemic, we are not allowing visitors into our home, and will be conducting phone interviews and reference checks instead. During this period where we can't meet in person to determine fit, we have a new interim policy. When we meet to pickup, we reserve the right to break the contract if we are no longer comfortable with fit, for ANY reason. Adoptive families will also have the same right to break the sale if they don't feel it is a good fit for any reason. In either case, full refund would be issued to the family the same day. It is of utmost importance that our babies go to homes that are a perfect fit - for both the bunnies AND their new families.
The Adoption Process is as follows. After reading our sales policy, you will need to fill out an adoption application. Please note that there are two different forms for pet homes vs. breeder homes. Next, we will review your application and determine initial fit. If we feel that your family could be a fit based on your application and photos, we will then conduct a phone interview. Next, if you are a pet home, we may ask to speak to your vet as a reference - we definitely will request that for all breeder applications. We will ask breeders for photos as well as videos of your setup. We approve very few breeder homes and breeding rights, as a lot do not follow the same ideals that we do. Some of our adult bunnies have come from less than desirable living conditions, and we will not sell to those types of breeders under any circumstances. Please do not waste our time, and yours, if you are one of those breeders. You know who you are, and we do too.
After you are approved for adoption, you will be added to the waitlist. Getting on the waiting list is free. The waitlist is done in the order that families are approved, and also includes personal preferences (such as sex, colors, VM, etc.). Once the babies are born, we will determine how many are available, but will not know sex for awhile and will also not know which specific babies are available until they are around 4-5 weeks old and we have watched them fill out and mature a bit. It will be at this point that we will also be able to confirm gender - we can guess very early on, but it is not always correct. :-)
At this age, we will then open reservations to the approved families! Once a family has picked their new baby out, a 50% non-refundable deposit via paypal will be required immediately to reserve. We will not be bale to reserve a baby without a deposit. The balance will be due via paypal before pickup. We will be sending photos and video updates to all the families on the waiting list, and will stay in touch as they grow! We also expect our families on the waiting list to stay in touch with us to remain on the list. Once you are moved from the waitlist to the reservation list, we will be in close contact with updates and will be sending over lots of information so that you have everything you need set up before you bring your new baby home! If there are not enough babies for all the families on the waiting list, they will automatically be moved to the next litter's waiting list. We will probably have a litter or two every few months or so, so more babies will be around the corner for those families who are able to wait a little bit longer. We always try our best to make all the families on our reservations list happy! :-)
